All new business regulation must be stopped with red tape simplified if the problem of unemployment is not be seriously dealt with, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has warned.
The body has called on the Government to freeze all new regulation for the next 12 months, a move that the FSB could save more then 300,000 jobs.
Figures show that over a quarter of firms that have wanted to expand have been put off doing so because of complicated regulation, while half of businesses downsizing said they were influenced by regulatory burdens they faced.
"We cannot and must not underestimate the burden that unnecessary regulation puts on small businesses," said John Wright, national chairman of the FSB.
